PROFESSIONAL GOLFER · THE ROAD TO THE LPGA
Amelie Alcantara is a young professional golfer who aspires to be a touring professional on the LPGA Tour. She graduated from FGCU and works at the West Bay Club in Southwest Florida, where she has impressed members with her skills, her +5.7 handicap index, and her winning personality.
Follow Her Journey ↓Amelie, 22, began playing golf at seven and won her first three-hole tournament just a year later. This is where the dream of being on the LPGA Tour one day began.
Growing up in South Florida, Amelie developed into a standout junior golfer and received a scholarship to begin her collegiate career at Eckerd College, where she quickly established herself as one of the top Division II players in the country.
During an exceptional freshman season, she climbed as high as No. 2 nationally, earned two individual victories, and became the first golfer in program history to compete at the NCAA Championship. She finished sixth and earned First Team All-American honors.
She later transferred to Division I Florida Gulf Coast University, where she continued her success with eight Top-10 finishes and an individual victory. She was also part of the team that captured the first conference championship in FGCU program history.
This past May, Amelie graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Marketing. On July 31, she competed in her first professional event at the Florida Open, shooting four under par and finishing second in the professional division to earn her first professional paycheck.
This fall, Amelie began pursuing her MBA at Florida Gulf Coast University, with a concentration in Digital Marketing.
Amelie also works ten hours a week as a graduate assistant, a position that covers the cost of her MBA. In this role, she supports the Hospitality Department by assisting professors and helping improve the department's outreach — designing flyers that encourage students to apply for job and internship opportunities in the hospitality industry.
Alongside her studies and assistantship, Amelie continues to work in the golf shop at West Bay, where she enjoys playing golf, building relationships, and interacting with the club's members.
Amelie's ultimate goal is to compete on the LPGA Tour and build a successful career as a professional golfer.
On September 22, she will begin LPGA Q-School, a highly competitive qualifying process consisting of three stages that continues through December. At each stage, players must perform well enough to advance, with the opportunity to earn professional tour status at the end of the process.
Amelie will also finish the year competing on Florida's NXXT Women's Pro Tour, which will help her stay tournament-ready, continue improving her game, and gain valuable professional experience.
Her tournament schedule for next year will depend on how far she advances through Q-School and the status she earns.
Pursuing professional golf involves significant expenses at every step of the journey:
